The increasing application of Lithium batteries imposes stricter requirements for Functional Safety and challenges for the BMS designers. This presentation reviews the safety terms and definitions. It offers guidelines for utilization of the safety-related features of Battery Front Ends, and implementation of architecture patterns that cover the safety goals defined for BMS safety functions to meet safety standards and achieve performance levels.
